The day has finally arrived. Microsoft has announced today, April 11th, 2017 Windows Vista will no longer be supported. On the company website, Microsoft states it will no longer offer updates or support for the Vista operating system.
Windows Vista customers are no longer receiving new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft.
Microsoft warns current Vista users of potential risk from malware and virus problems if they continue to use Windows Vista. Additionally, Microsoft states they are discontinuing support for Internet Explore 9. Customers using Explore 9 are at a heightened state of exposure to malware and viruses.
Windows Vista & Security Essentials
To add insult to injury for current Vista users, Microsoft states they will no longer offer updates to their Microsoft Security Essentials. This means anyone looking to secure their Vista computer from malware or viruses with Microsoft products, will be unable. The company recommends current Vista customers upgrade to Windows 10 or get a new PC.
This is kind of funny reading an End of Support (EOS) statement telling customers to get a new PC. The company is also recommending Vista customers to purchase “laplink” to move their current files to a new PC. The website even links to a discount for the product.
